I have used this provider for more than 6 months

I had 3 children attending Smiles and Giggles Daycare in District Heights, MD; 2 year old twins and a 4 year old. The owner seemed attentive and caring in the beginning. She boosted about being an educator for 15 years prior to opening her daycare. However, she knows absolutely nothing about young children. She actually expected my husband and I to take our kids to the doctor if they just sneezed; and she wanted a doctor’s note in order for them to return….for a simple sneeze.

Ms. McCullough told us that she had 4 assistance during the initial interview. That’s not true. Not only is her ONLY assistant her daughter. But, she sent a group text to the parents one morning at 5:20am stating that she was sick and that daycare was closed that day. Furthermore, she stated that she gets 7 PAID SICK DAYS’S per year. Where were her invisible assistance? You can imagine how much of an inconvenience it is for daycare to suddenly close without prior notice?

Ms. McCullough required 6 PAID days off to take classes to finish her certification. So, ***SHE IS NOT A LICENSED CHILDCARE PROVIDER***. Additionally, she notified us that she will be closed for October 22nd to October 26th for vacation and payment was still due. Once again where are her 4 assistance?

My oldest was diagnosed with asthma 3 months after he started daycare. My husband immediately gave Ms. McCullough the paperwork from the hospital along with Albuterol and a spacer mask all brand new and unopened. 2 months later Ms. McCullough asked for an additional document ***2 months later*** Well, I explained to her that I would have to make a doctor’s appointment in order to have the document completed. I further informed her that the doctor has up until two weeks to return the form to me. She in her very demanding voice asked if we could take him to the ER to have the form completed. I informed her that you cannot take children to the ER to complete daycare forms. Since she seemed so uncomfortable giving my extremely mildly asthmatic son two pumps of albuterol IF he needed it, I told her to simply call the ambulance until we got the form completed. My response was not pleasing to her. So, she questioned my husband about it that following day.

My husband explained the process to her yet again and we notified her that the children had doctors’ appointments the following month anyway and that we could give her the forms then. She insisted that she needed this one form immediately. So, I emailed my sons doctor and explained the situation and his doctor literally jumped through hoops to complete the document for me immediately since she was leaving to go on a two week vacation.
I scanned and submitted the document to Ms. McCullough the same day and she told me thank you very much. Well, that evening when my husband went to pick-up our kids she told him that we were missing a form. He told her that we completed the only form that she gave us and her response was, “No, I asked my daughter to give you the second form in an envelope a couple of days ago”.

My husband explained to her that it’s imperative to communicate important information beyond just passing him an unmarked envelope at 6:00pm when he’s picking-up our 3 kid’s. He then reminded her that the kid’s doctor is on a two week vacation and we will get the form completed that she failed to give us in a timely or proper manner when the doctor comes back or when we go for my son’s impeding doctor’s appointment.

That very evening when he picked the kids up Ms. McCullough asked him for the form again. My husband was very confused and explained that we will be able to give her the form as soon as the doctor comes back from vacation. She then asked him again to take our perfectly healthy only lightly asthmatic son to the ER to have the form completed. When he refused to take our child to the ER over a form that she dropped the ball on she abruptly terminated all 3 of our children. She already had their items fully packed along with a typed letter of termination. This was premeditated, malicious, and on a Thursday all because she didn’t get her way. Ms. McCullough is not a role model for children. She has a great business concept, but no idea how to properly and efficiently run a daycare.

If you’re looking for a nourishing environment for your child/children where they will be treated like family…THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU!!!

Lastly, she refused to give us back a partial refund for the additional summer monies that we paid and she refused to give us back a refund for the remaining day in the week following our wrongful termination. And, when I asked her for my kid’s medical forms back she said that she shredded them!!!

I have filed a formal complaint against her with the Department of Labor and Licensing.

RUN LIKE HELL!!!!
