To nurture a well-rounded and independent child who has enthusiasm for learning and a positive attitude towards themselves and the world around them.
The purposes of this corporation are:
1. To maintain a non-profit, non-sectarian, cooperative preschool as a needed community project, in which the parents, Teacher(s), and Director take the responsibility for the administration of the school. The Teacher and Director assumes primary responsibility for the education program of the children.
2. To provide affordable, quality preschool education through the cooperative participation of the school community.
3. To further the education of its members in the principles of child guidance, through their observation of children, participation in the daily program as assistants to a trained instructor, and attendance at educational meetings.
4. To provide a explorative and child-directed curriculum that addresses all aspects of child development, including social interaction as well as problem solving, and academic preparation.

I love the educational philosophy of this school! Each class is partly directed by the teacher during circle time and it's very academic. The other part of each class is student-directed. There are stations set out that the children are encouraged to participate in. They are also welcome to select their own activities from the shelves, do pretend play in the themed areas, care for the classroom pets, water the native rain gardens outside, and work on their word box or read a book. And through it all, as a Cooperative School, the parents take part in all aspects of the school, including taking turns as classroom helpers. Take a tour and see for yourself!
Magothy Cooperative Preschool is a family oriented school. The whole idea that a parent needs to be involved with their child's education resonants with me. The moms that go here with their children are the ones that lead the local Moms Clubs and the PTA. Magothy asks that a family member be the Helping Parent once or twice a month in their child's class; helping with an activity table, setting up the snack and playing with the children. The whole class tends to bond, both parents and children and continue playdates outside of school.
Not everyone is able to be so hands-on with their child's education or wants to be, but if you can, this school will be a fit for you too.
