My brother called me on Wednesday and he was distraught asking me for advice. He said that while my beautiful nephew was at this facility a staff member forced his mouth open, put soap in it, and scratched him on the face after he engaged in a negative behavior. Granted, I recognize that my nephew was wrong in engaging in a negative behavior, but as daycare providers you should hold yourself to higher standard. You are the adult. This behavior is abusive on all levels. Do you think in hindsight you could have handled this differently? When is it ever okay to do this? I’ve directed my brother on next steps to mediate this situation. In the meantime, I want other people who take their children here or are considering taking their children here to be observant. I hope that your company will take immediate action to correct the staff who engaged in this behavior.
