About the Provider

For more than three decades, Katherine Michiels School (KMS) has served Bay Area children and families. KMS began by offering a preschool program and have expanded over the years to include infants and later added a progressive and academically rigorous curriculum for elementary students through fifth grade. The school is proud on providing high-quality, affordable education within a nurturing, child-centered environment. The mission is to foster each child’s experience of the world so that he or she can blossom to potential and become a compassionate, autonomous and contributing member of society. The approach is grounded in understanding the distinct developmental stages that all children experience, and the individuality that makes each child’s journey through those stages unique. The curriculum draws from an array of respected educational methods and principles: Reggio Emilia, Maria Montessori, Jean Piaget, Mel Levine, Sudbury, Alfred Adler, Erik Erickson, Bev Boss, the Slingerland Institute for Literacy, and the High Scope Educational Research Foundation. This rich and varied palette allows us to help each child learn in ways best suited to his or her personality, interests and abilities.
