Description: Judy K. Miller Elementary opened as a school within a school for the 2015-16 school term. Students and staff will share space with Glenn Harmon Elementary (2015-16) and Charlotte Anderson Elementary (2016-17) while their facilities are being rebuilt. Miller Elementary is scheduled to open as its own independent campus the fall of 2017.
MISD Administration put the school-within-a-school initiative in place as an effort to prevent overcrowding at the neighboring campuses of Elizabeth Smith and Cora Spencer Elementary. As these campuses reach capacity, student overflow could be moved to Judy K. Miller Elementary.
In April 2015, Mansfield ISD opened up a limited number of enrollment spots for students zoned at Smith and Spencer Elementary. This option allowed parents, in close proximity of Miller Elementary, an opportunity to pre-enroll their child at the school they would most likely be zoned to when Judy K. Miller opens as an independent campus. Parent meetings were held at both campuses to discuss details about the intra-district option.
