About the Provider
Jefferson Elementary is a neighborhood school located one block south of Kellogg and one block west of Oliver. Being respectful, responsible, caring, hardworking and honest are all qualities that are encouraged and valued at Jefferson.
Jefferson has a population of about 450 students, which includes students in our English Language Learners (ELL) and Newcomers programs. These two programs serve children and families who speak other languages. ELL students come to Jefferson from the Hyde school area. Newcomer students are assigned to Jefferson from many other area elementary schools including Mueller, Spaght, Adams, Allen, Buckner, Caldwell, Clark, Gammon, Griffith, Jackson, Minneha, Price/Harris and Seltzer.
Jefferson has an all day kindergarten program and a half day morning and afternoon pre-kindergarten program for 4 year olds. The middle school that Jefferson students attend is Curtis Middle School, and the high school is Southeast High School, both located at Lincoln and Edgemoor.
Jefferson has implemented the B.I.S.T. behavior plan that encourages students to be responsible for their own behavior, giving them skills to monitor and assess their moods and to make better behavioral choices.
Jefferson has connected to the community through its tutoring/mentoring programs, partnerships, community representations on the school's site council and other outreach.
The staff itself is active in the community, serving on various committees and attending meetings. The school has a walking track that is open to the public when school is not in attendance.
Jefferson was very blessed to receive six new classrooms, a new set of restrooms, new offices for our child study team and a wonderfully inviting secure entrance from the 2008 Bond Issue. Check out the fun we had at our Open House below.
