About the Provider

Horizons Hampton Roads is a six week summer enrichment program for children in grades K-8. The program is designed to Inspire Minds, Build Community, and Transform Lives. Children from homes with income below the poverty line are eligible to apply to one of three programs in the Hampton Roads area, operated through a public-private partnership with Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Portsmouth Public Schools, and host schools Norfolk Collegiate School, Chesapeake Bay Academy and Portsmouth Catholic Regional School. Horizons students are empowered through a combination of academics, artistic expression, social growth, and cultural enrichment. A 4:1 student/teacher ratio is maintained to optimize project-based learning and individual student needs, giving Horizons students a distinct advantage when they return to school in the fall. During the summer of 2011 Horizons Hampton Roads served more 300 children from these three communities. Horizons Hampton Roads is a community asset, a contributor to economic development, and a life-enhancing experience for its participants.
