Description: Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. Its goals are simple:
to promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women
to enhance the development of very young children
to promote healthy family functioning
EHS has two program options: Home Visitation Services and Center Based Services. Through these two program options, EHS provides individualized child development, parent education and early opportunities for infants/toddlers with and without disabilities to develop in nurturing and inclusive settings. The Home Visitation option consists of weekly 90-minute home visits, twice a month socialization groups, breastfeeding support, prenatal education, and labor support classes. The Center Based option provides year-round childcare from Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All diapers, wipes, bottles, food and formula for the enrolled child are provided. It is not required that toddlers be potty trained to enroll.
