About the Provider
First Presbyterian Nursery School has been an integral part of the community since 1969. We are a private, non-profit, non-denominational nursery school that does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, or color. We have grown and changed in many ways since our inception, but our mission remains the same: “To provide, as a community service, a non-profit, non-sectarian nursery school of the highest educational standards.”
Our staff consists of qualified and experienced teachers who clearly understand the social and emotional needs of pre-school children. In order to meet and maintain the “highest of educational standards," teachers at First Presbyterian attend classes, workshops and in-service days, as required by Connecticut state law. This policy assures that our staff is aware of best practice in education while always caring for and meeting the needs of the individual child. The unique personality, learning style, and family background of each child are the concern of each teacher and staff member here. Offering a variety of scholarships, First Presbyterian Nursery School encourages diversity within its student body.
We know that children learn best in environments that are developmentally appropriate in which teachers encourage physical movement, freedom of expression, active communication including individual and group problem solving. In order to provide a supportive environment, and in an effort to meet our goals, we have a well-planned facility that offers a variety of materials including blocks, sand, water, hour corners, table toys, manipulatives, a library corner, paints, play dough or clay.
