Where possible, ChildcareCenter provides inspection reports as a service to families. This information is deemed reliable, but is not guaranteed. We encourage families to contact the daycare provider directly with any questions or concerns, as the provider may have already addressed some or all issues. Findings: The center has 48 children present today. Their approved total capacity is 45. There are many part time children enrolled and Tuesday/Thursday are the higher enrollment days. The director wishes to request an increase in capacity for the Medio and Grande classrooms (15 to 20 children). The director must submit a change in operation form to the licensing specialist. The room measure for more than 20 children and will allow for an increase in capacity. We discussed keeping the Piccolo classroom at a capacity of 12 due to the number of two year old children enrolled. The Medio and Grande classrooms will be 20 each for a total capacity of 52. The licensing specialist observed 53 nap sources (mats and cots). The center is reminded the total capacity must not be exceeded. If a capacity increase will be needed upon further enrollment, the center must submit a change in operation form requesting the increase prior to enrolling the children. The capacity also refers to each classroom's capacity. The current capacity of the Medio classroom is 15 and there were 19 children present today. The center must ensure each classroom's capacity is not exceeded as well as the center's total capacity.

Findings: The complaint alleges that teachers were bouncing around the classrooms on Friday, May 3rd (seemed short staffed) and at one time there were 18 children present with one staff person in the Medio classroom. At the time of the inspection, a preschool child care teacher and aide were present in each classroom. There was an issue in the Piccolo classroom: 15 children present with 2 staff person which included 11 two year olds. The maximum group size for the two year olds was exceeded. The maximum group size for the two year olds is 12. If the center wished to exceed the group size of 12, there can be no more than 6 two year olds in the group. Whenever 4 to 6 two year olds are present in a mixed preschool group of up to 20 children, there must be 3 assigned staff persons. The director wishes just to maintain the classroom at 12 as determining group size in a mixed age group with two year old children can be tricky. Today there are two children in this classroom that leave at noon and 5 children who only attend part time on certain days of the week. Staff remained with their groups at the time of the inspection. Staffing must be maintained at all times in the classrooms.

2018-08-02 | Complaint | 13A.16.12.01A(2) | Corrected |
Findings: The center did not serve milk with lunch. The medio and grande classrooms were eating lunch at the time of the inspection and were offered the juice box or other beverage supplied by the parent. Those few children who did not have a beverage were given apple juice. Milk was observed in the refrigerator in a quantity that would serve all children at lunch. The milk is 1% and meets the food guidelines. The director stated milk was served during the school year but during the summer the children have their beverage supplied by the parent. The summer is no different than the school year for the center as they are still licensed by the Office of Child Care and not a camp licensed by the Department of Health. The director understands she must serve milk with every meal at the center which is currently lunch. |
