About the Provider

Description: Meet Katie: My name is Katie Clow. I started taking care of children within my home in January 2019, shortly after my first child. Prior to that, I had been a personal nanny for many families in Vermont and Connecticut since 2009. I moved from Greenwich, CT to Essex, VT in 2013 to be with my husband. He always promised he would find property to create a childcare facility and to make my dream job come true. What better than the home he grew up in. We purchased his later-childhood home in June 2017. Within a few short years, we created our home into a childcare facility to welcome young families into our little family. If I wasn¿t working with children, my next dream job would be to organize people. I love packing and unpacking for big moves. I enjoy checking items off lists to get ready for the next school year. My favorite is to completely reorganize a basement! I take pride in my organization skills very much. I believe children gain knowledge through playful interaction and grow through experiences. My favorite part of the day is watching a child learn something new, or be kind to one another due to the atmosphere I provide. That makes me feel like I¿ve done a good job at helping them grow. And as much as I will teach the children, they most certainly will teach me along the way. I hold that dear to my heart. I have an Associate¿s Degree in Liberal Arts from Mt. Ida College in Newton, MA. At a young age, I¿ve always had an interest in children as it feels like second nature to me; from babysitting across the street at 11 years old, to becoming a part of multiple families as their personal nanny. Becoming a part of a family with growing children is a much rewarding emotion. After 10+ years, I still have a loving, kind, and dedicated relationship with these families. I hope to continue that with future families. Activities: Children are engaged all of the time. A simple act could teach them something new each day. As much as they learn during a structured environment, they will learn just as much during an unstructured environment. Each child is given the opportunity to engage in any activity they want to participate in and are offered inspiration to try new experiences. I teach by play. We count when walking up steps, do our alphabet every time we wash our hands, learn new words when exploring new things, and express emotions all by experience. Examples: When eating fruit, we count how many fruit pieces we have, and what color the fruit is. We also create patterns with our foods. While we're outside, we name off items we see along our adventure walks and what letter the item starts with. Letting a child, or little scientist as I call them, figure things out on their own is imperative. I will become involved when need be, but I do my best to give a child time, space, and independence when trying to problem solve.
