Centro Mater was founded in 1968 by Mother Margarita Miranda Otero, a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, in response to the needs of exiled Cubans arriving in Miami. Centro Mater West received the highest rating (5 Stars) by Quality Counts an organization established by The Children's Trust to review early learning programs according to clearly defined, high-quality standards related to teacher qualifications, learning environment, curriculum, teacher/child ratios, family engagement and program administration.
