One of my BEST childhood memories was attending Centro Mater in late 60s. I do not remember the exact year because I was a child. My parents Ernesto and Sara registered my sister and I into Centro Mater for that GREAT summer camp experience. My step-dad was from Chile and my mother from Guatemala. Our family was poor and I am certain that Centro Mater was a God sent to my parents, and Centro Mater felt like a summer camp experience. To this day I remember the excitement I felt when I would attend this wonderful place that had so many activities for my sister and I to enjoy. The staff would drive us in school buses to different destinations. The staff interacted with the students and have sing-alongs on the bus. They presented prizes for children participation in the different events they had planned in advance. The reason I decided to write this review is because these activities shaped the rest of my life as far as participation, good behavior and positive reinforcement motivated me to always do my very best. I now live in California and my sister lives in Miami and to this day 55 years later we talk about how much fun we had at Centro Mater. In fact the memories are so wonderful that I decided to look up this organization. When I saw the opportunity to share my rating this place, I had to do this. Thank you Centro Mater staff and I just hope that they continued to offer what they did for my entire family. Thank You!!!

Centro Mater Foundation's mission is to support the programs of Centro Mater Childcare Services, a nonprofit organization providing care, education, nourishment, health services, and after school programs to children from 6 weeks to 12 years of age. Centro Mater was founded in 1968 by Mother Margarita Miranda Otero, a member of the Society of the Sacred Heart, in response to the needs of exiled Cubans arriving in Miami. She believed children needed care and protection while their parents worked to attain financial independence. Today, Centro Mater has 5 accredited centers in Miami-Dade and serves children of every race, faith and nationality.
