Description:
Welcome to Carolina Prep! We are a preschool (infants - K4) and a elementary school (Kindergarten - 5th Grade). Creative Curriculum and Core Knowledge are the two curriculum that we use in our preschool, and we teach these skills through fun, games, and hands-on learning experiences. At Carolina Prep, we believe in the extreme importance of music, art, physical education, and foreign language to the future learning success of children. Therefore, these classes are offered daily in the preschool and elementary school. The children at Carolina Prep have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular classes such as dance, martial arts, piano, violin, guitar, LEGO clubs, and more. We also offer after school and summer camp for children Kindergarten - 5th grade. Learning should be fun and we make every effort to reach every learner through creativity and engaging in their interests.

This is a hidden gem. Do not judge this book by its cover. I am a local pediatrician, and I have been so impressed by the teachers and leadership at this school. Our kids were at another child care center, Park Place, before. We had some concerning safety issues with our infant son and decided to look for another school. WIthin a week of placing our infant at Carolina Prep, he 'came alive'. He was happy to be dropped off, he was more interactive. It was a stark difference for us. The teachers are incredible. All the teachers know all of the kids, and yet because of their primary teacher designation you still feel like your child is getting undivided attention. They are perfect for working families. They have tons of extracurriculars your kids can attend during the school day. They order their food from one of the healthiest restaurants in town. The students are an international mix. The focus is on your kids and what they are learning, not on aesthetics or fancy decor...and it pays off. Lee, the director, is responsive, considerate and always professional and appropriate. We truly regret not having started our kids from the beginning at Carolina Prep. Having seen most of the schools in town, we have been very pleased.
Carolina Prep is a very special place. The small class sizes allow the staff to focus on each child's special qualities and contributions to the classroom. In fact, the teachers are truly partners with parents in creating a loving, stimulating and developmentally-appropriate environment for each child.
My daughter goes to Carolina Prep. I'd always been career-minded prior to having children, and I'd like to think that I'm a fairly intelligent person. However, I have been amazed by the things that a child can learn at a given age. The things they study in their classes really surprise me. For example, one day she came home and told me that birds are both predators and prey. Another time, she told me how Beethoven was completely deaf in the latter part of his life. I would not have expected a Kindergartener to know those things, much less who Beethoven even was. More importantly, it's obvious that they focus on problem-solving skills. For example, she doesn't ask "why" questions, but rather, "how" questions. There's a difference in the kinds of thought processes involved there, and I think that says a lot about the instruction she receives during the day.
