Description: Bethany Children’s House is dedicated to the principles and philosophies of Dr. Maria Montessori, who observed that children want to learn, but need an environment that provides work that is meaningful and in a setting that will allow each child to flourish. Dr. Montessori taught us that a child is not simply an empty vessel to be “filled” with knowledge. Rather, children posses an innate quest for knowledge and our tasks as parents and teachers is to provide an atmosphere conducive to learning- a “prepared environment”. Each child at Bethany Children’s House is honored and respected for his or her own uniqueness. We do a disservice to children when we are always “doing for” them. Much of a child’s “work” is to learn how to do these things for himself, and given the opportunity, in an appropriate setting, with the right tools and materials, a child will do so with great pride. We provide that setting, infused with the Montessori philosophy and gentle but firm guidance.
