Bennett Elementary, a neighborhood Prek-5 school located in a residential neighborhood in vibrant Southwest Detroit, offers a rigorous elementary curriculum that infuses 21st Century technology in all core subjects. Our highly dedicated staff prepares its students extensively for the next level of learning beyond elementary school. Bennett has consistently met and exceeded AYP each year since 2001. Bennett’s many community and university partnerships and abundant extra-curricular activities create an enriching academic environment for all students to explore interests beyond the traditional classroom and to engage students in higher thinking processes. The wide array of extra-curricular activities include choir, soccer, basketball, photography and instrumental and vocal music. Partnerships with the University of Michigan and the InsideOut Literacy Arts Project ensure a well-rounded and engaging learning experience. Bennett also offers a state-approved preschool program to fully prepare students for kindergarten. The program incorporates child-directed learning to foster a love of learning but also uses structured lessons that include pre-writing and foundations in math, science and social studies. Our teachers and staff, many of whom are fluent in Spanish, pride themselves in superb customer service and creating a welcoming atmosphere for parents and students. We offer dozens of parenting workshops in its own warm and inviting Parent Resource Center.
