Description: Benjamin Franklin Elementary School first opened in the fall of 1990 at the California School for the Deaf, Riverside. Due to the rapid growth in the area, the school opened at that time and place to provide classrooms for the students in the community while the school was completed. The current site opened in 1992. The school sits on what once were fields of orange groves, hence the name of the community, Orangecrest. Franklin was the first school in Riverside Unified School District to be built in the Orangecrest area.
