Description: Bates Academy is an application school for high-performing and gifted students. An examination is required, and the results are a factor in determining student admission. Students must demonstrate exceptional cognitive abilities and must be able to succeed academically beyond their current grade level. We offer rigorous instruction, with a focus upon student mastery and depth of knowledge. We offer a multitude of enriching opportunities associated with the educational program. Our goal is to accelerate student performance by providing rigorous instruction and enriching learning opportunities that appeal to a variety of learning styles and preferences. Bates Academy has been one of the “flag ship” schools in the Detroit Public Schools district for many years, and it has always attracted the best and the brightest students in the city.
