About the Provider
In a caring and positive atmosphere, Healy-Murphy Child Development Center creates a warm and happy place where children can learn. As we bridge the gap from home to school, we guide children toward continued good self-image while building social skills in a group setting. Sensory, motor, perceptual and language skills are introduced through materials and activities that are both child-centered and teacher-directed. Activities are planned based on regular observation of the children. This information is used to build on children's strengths and individual interests. Based on a theory that children learn through play and discovery, classroom routines encourage active involvement, meaningful experimentation and reinforcement through repetition. Schedules are designed to balance structured and free choice, as well as active and quiet times. Recognizing that children grow in predictable stages, we treat each child as an individual, working with the level each child has attained and moving forward one step at a time. We teach a love of learning by allowing children to experience their own pace of development and helping them to feel success without pressure. We value the active involvement of parents in our program, both through committee and classroom participation. Parent Days enable the children to see their parents as important and concerned members of the center's environment, while providing parents with opportunities to view the child with teachers and other children. Parents may gain valuable insights and techniques from the expertise of the staff, and at the same time, share their own talents and interests. Learning is a shared experience which links home with center. This link can extend and enrich a child's learning in both settings.
