Rural Cap Child Development Center

In Anchorage, the Child Development Center (CDC) provides full-day, year-round child care for children between the ages of 19 months to five years. The Center has an open enrollment policy with a sliding tuition scale to benefit low-income families. The Center is licensed by the Municipality of Anchorage. A Parent Committee promotes family involvement in the Center’s activities and events. The Center continues to maintain its participation in the Strengthening Families Initiative aimed at eliminating child abuse and neglect. The Center believes that a child’s growth must be understood and built upon by the family.

To achieve this goal, the Center encourages involvement by inviting family members to use their special talents and skills to participate in all aspects of the program, from classroom activities to special events. Family members may become deeply involved in the decision-making through interview committees for hiring caregivers, or participating in writing policies.

The Child Development Center is now licensed by the Municipality of Anchorage for full-day, year-round child care services for 64 children. The Center offers Parents as Teachers, child care services, and recently began offering Head Start services. The toddler classroom also known as the “Busy Bees” serves children 19 months to 36 months. The preschool classroom, “Dolphins” serves children 36 months to kindergarten eligible. The Center’s teaching staff provides children with a wide variety of early childhood activities related to physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. Weekly lesson plans are created by the children’s interest and developmental levels. Teaching staff communicate daily with families in written and verbal form to ensure teamwork in educating children. The Center also provides meals on sites, including morning and afternoon snacks, as well as lunch. Meals are served family style and staff join the children to help model good eating habits and table manners. All families are welcome to join us for lunch on any day of the week.
