CHILDRENS CENTER OF KNOXVILLE

CHILDRENS CENTER OF KNOXVILLE

Knoxville, TN 37919 | (865) 523-2672
A group of professionals came together to meet a shared goal -a desire to find a facility in the Knoxville area that would provide competent childcare in an environment that would enrich the quality of life and promote the development of their babies and young children. This group of individuals was generally well educated and desired to be employed on a full-time basis, but also wanted to ensure that their children were cared for properly. They were willing to pay for the quality of service they desired and needed, but were unable to find this level of service. They set about, therefore, to establish a facility that could provide these services. From the beginning, the founders determined that they not only wanted to meet their own needs, but that they wanted to make quality service available to children from all cross-sections of the community. They incorporated as a private, non-profit corporation and set up a Board of Directors to oversee operations. They sought and received Title XX funding through which services could be made available to low-income families and to children whose homes were found to be too stressful. The United Way of Greater Knoxville provided part of the 25% local match of these Title XX funds.

Knoxville, TN 37919 | (865) 691-2661
Our program is based on the philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. Her approach to human development focuses on the most vital stage of a child's life: the beginning. Our classrooms provide a carefully prepared environment in which the child has opportunities for activities in the following areas: practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics, and culture. Giving Tree Montessori was started in 1980 to provide a multi-cultural environment for children 2 ½ to 6 years of age. Our school is intentionally small to accommodate a sense of community for our families and staff. Many of our children come to us from different cultural backgrounds which contribute richly to our environment. We limit our enrollment to 40 students with a staff of seven. We welcome you to the Giving Tree community. We hope this site will answer any questions you might have about Giving Tree. If you have additional questions, feel free to email us and we will be in touch with you soon.

MEAD MONTESSORI SCHOOL - SOUTH

MEAD MONTESSORI SCHOOL - SOUTH

Knoxville, TN 37920 | (865) 577-0760
Montessori education is designed to help children with their task of inner construction as they grow from childhood to maturity. It succeeds because it draws its principles from the natural development of the child. The inherent flexibility allows the method to adapt to the needs of the individual, regardless of the level of ability, learning style or social maturity. The Montessori approach offers a broad vision of education as an aid to life. It is the task of each child to develop himself into as complete a human being as possible. Nature has endowed young children with absorbent minds and acute sensitivities, allowing them to acquire certain kinds of knowledge and abilities more wholly before age six, than at any time later life. How successfully each child accomplishes this task in the early years has great bearing not only on the amount of knowledge and skill he will have at his command in later years, but, more importantly, the attitudes toward himself, his world, and learning that he embraces. Montessori education is based on a heart-felt respect for this task of the child, and on a careful observation of the process by which it is accomplished. What we offer is a thoughtful response to this natural unfolding so that, in each case, it can be as successful and complete as possible. Discovering the joys of learning and developing social and intellectual discipline lay the foundation for a happy, productive life. The children develop an appreciation for the world while becoming responsible human beings and active members of a harmonious society.Montessori education achieves these goals, by supporting the following truths about learning, which are based on scientific observation.
