Disappointed 2013-05-01 14:04:07

I had a horrible experience with this facility. They would not allow me to tour the facility unless it was during a scheduled time which made me a little apprehensive, because I wanted to see what it was like without them knowing a parent and potential client was coming, giving them time to clean up any issues. When I arrived to take my tour and fill out the paperwork the receptionist informed me she was on break and the other lady at the desk told me it wasn't her job. The lady on break finally offered to walk me over to the infants' portable, never wasting the opportunity to remind me of the favor she was doing me by walking me over to see the facility while she was on her break. When I walked into the portable, the teacher was also on a break and there were 2 women filling in during her absence. The room was dark, the furniture old and it had an obnoxious odor. One of the little boys, who was apparently transitioning from his crib to the nap mat, had fallen asleep at the foot of his old crib. One of the ladies gave an annoyed sigh and yanked him up from his spot and out him on a nap mat. When he began to cry, she did nothing to soothe him, only pushed his head back down on the mat and told him to sleep, which he did. I thought maybe I was being too picky and as a single mom, on a fixed income, I felt I didn't have a lot of options for childcare. So, I did the paperwork and gave them a check to hold until Monday, then they could cash it, after I called to confirm. I did this because they pressured me by saying my baby might lose her spot and if I waited until the next week, the price would go up. I gave them, in good faith, the registration fee and 2 weeks advanced payment. Over the weekend, I thought about the things I had seen and how unwelcoming the facility was. Luckily an opportunity came up for me to keep my daughter home with family, at least for a few more months. I called on Monday to advise them of this, and the Director assured me that they hadn't charged me yet, and that if they had the charge would be promptly reversed. I then checked my account to find that I was in fact charged, the very same day I came to tour. I was given the run around for a full week, until I was advised that only the pastor could issue a refund. When I was finally able to reach the Pastor, he was very degrading and told me "Listen sweetheart, you'll get your money back, when I get to it next week." I asked him if he could at least give me a date, as I am a single mom, and it was a lot of money for me. He continued to blow me off, calling me sweetheart and finally ended the call, by advising me that the refund was a favor to me, and he'd get to it, whenever he felt necessary. The next day I came to speak to the pastor in person. At first he refused to speak to me, and when he finally came out, he threatened to call the police and told me that since I wasn't satisfied with him not giving me an answer in regards to my refund, he would not be giving me a refund at all. He told me he would sleep very well that night knowing he had taken the money that a single mother depended on. The women in the office apologized profusely and said they couldn't believe what they'd just witnessed. They said they were scared to speak up because they were there on some program. All they wanted to do was complete the program, so they could leave and get jobs elsewhere. They told me where the director was, and I walked over to her, where she was watching at least 15 kids by herself, while the teacher was, of course, on break. She also apologized and gave me her word that she would resolve the issue for me. She told me this was a new program, and asked me not to give a bad review because of the pastor, as he wasn't going to be running the program. I advised her that I was willing to bring my daughter there after a few months, but that my experience had been so bad that I wouldn't consider them again. I did however promise her that I wouldn't give a review if she got back to me that weekend. I never heard from her again, and haven't seen my money since. It was a HORRIBLE experience, and as a woman of faith, I'm ashamed that this is how a "Christian" facility is run.
