Description:
The Children's Campus at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) is a child and professional development center. Enrollment is open to RVCC students, staff and faculty, as well as families from the surrounding community when space is available. Part or fulltime enrollment is accepted and billed on a monthly basis. The specially designed building -- off parking lot #4 on campus -- includes four classrooms, a kitchen, teacher's worksroom and administrative office. There are two enclosed playgrounds attached to the facility. As part of the larger college community, the children are able to take walking trips on campus, as well as field trips to the RVCC Planetarium and Theatre. The Children's Campus is proud of its supervision and service-learning commitment for teaching assistants, student teachers and service learning. We participate actively in supporting the development of high quality childcare in New Jersey. We welcome children who speak different languages, celebrate different traditions, and have diverse abilities. We provide an accepting, diverse environment for children of varying culture, ethnicity, gender and family composition.
College faculty and staff, student parents, and student teachers will discover at The Children's Campus highly educated and expereinced administrators and teachers in early care and education of young children, and to mentoring students enrolled in the early childhood, elementary education, psychology and other related disciplines. They also will discover open minded employees who value and respect the diversity that is an integral part of RVCC. All who enter The Children's Campus will experience a warm, welcoming, enriching and inclusive environment that supports children and students to reach their highest potential. The program and curriculum focus on the whole child and are designed to meet the diverse social, physical, emotional and cognitive needs of individual children, as well as to promote curiosity, persistence, creativity and initiative as approached to learning. Additionally, we foster a sense of self-respect, concern for others, independence and environmental awareness. The Children's Campus at RVCC follows the Creative Curriculum, a neationally- and state-recognized curriculum for young children. Teacher observations and documentation of individual development are used to adjust the program to better challenge individual development, as well as to conference with parents.
