My child has been in 2 daycares in the last year. Both of them have been focused on the love and logic philosophy and when we enrolled my daughter at the Academy we chose the academy because the love and logic approach was something she was familiar with. It was a Mistake to assume the transition would be smooth. The facility is beautiful; it’s the people who work there who are the issue…
To begin with, within weeks of enrolling her in the pre k class another mother told me of the high turn around she has seen since enrolling her son who was also in pre k. Less than a week later the second teacher in my daughter’s pre k class gave her notice and it took them more than a month to replace her. Then the assistant director left suddenly to become the director of the school in Westminster. A huge loss for this location! She was the only one who seemed to like her job and was generally a happy person!
In that month the (first month of her enrolment) everything went downhill and it is still going. Not only does the center director always seem too busy to talk unless it is something negative, I can’t tell who the people at the front desk are and why they are there, the never speak to parents at drop off or pick up. They could even be the teenage children of the staff who are just hanging out waiting for school to start, I have no idea. It’s not that hard to say “Hi” to me. They know who my child is, she always says “Hi” and gets no response from them. There is a general attitude of “I won’t talk to you unless I have to” and I’ve noticed my daughters pre k teacher outright avoiding me if she can.
I almost never see my daughter’s teacher, largely because there was only one for more than a month, but she seemed to get little help from the director, and she appears to hate her job. She ignores my husband, who has been complaining to me about it for weeks. I call, I leave work early, I write letters, I leave notes with other staff (which are never passed on I’m sure) in order to communicate with the teacher and I’m just talking to a brick wall. She was shocked when I said my child was bored in her class, took offence to it and from what I can tell has changed nothing! Although the director says she they are trying everything “in the book” and don’t know what else to do.
If you are a young parent you will be singled out at this center, if your child is hyper, full of life, smart, a leader, or advanced in any way you will be told they have behavior issues, ADD, and needs to be evaluated. They will treat your child like a text book, (I didn’t know there was a book on how to raise a child) insist they have done everything they can and try to push you off so they don’t have to deal with you. Don’t take your child here, pre k is 210$ a week and the KinderCare across the street is 228$ and well worth the extra 18 a week!
