I have used this provider for more than 6 months

My daughter was enrolled in Stepping Stones and then it changed ownership about 6-8months later.
There were actually 2 different incidents. One day I picked up my daughter from daycare and they told me that she wasn’t feeling good and had an unusually long nap. She was 2 years old at the time.
When I put her in her car seat I knew immediately what was wrong. As I shifted her arm to put her seatbelt on she screamed in pain. I got out of the car and called to the intern who was still outside and asked her what happened. She told me that all she did was pick her up and take her across the playground.
I took her to the emergency room and the doctor confirmed that she had a dislocated elbow.
This is common in young children and is referred to as “nurse maid’s elbow”. The problem is that when I asked to see the cameras it showed that the intern had picked her up above the elbows and walked her across the play yard. The timestamp on the camera showed 10am. I picked her up at 5:30pm. She spent all day with a dislocated elbow for nearly 8 hours! The cameras showed her also eating her lunch with one arm.
This was reported to CPS. Knowing that it is a very common injury and children under the age of five I can understand if something like this happens. We arranged for my daughter to go into the next class up and not to be in the same classroom with the same intern.
Mesa County has very limited daycare available and at the time being a single mother I felt trapped. But I was somewhat relieved that she was not with the same intern. When I say intern it’s because this was not the teacher that runs the class. It’s an intern.

Everything seem to be going great and it seems like my daughter really liked the new class. Until one day I picked her up at 5:30 PM and her feet were completely scrubbed raw. As I walked into the classroom I heard her crying. I went around the corner and she was sitting on the floor with both of her feet beet red just crying hysterically.
The teacher went on to explain herself. She said that she had been looking for a permanent marker all day and couldn’t find it. My daughter had found it and she had colored all over her feet. So we tried our best to get it off. She had thought that maybe my daughter was going through an allergic reaction. I told her why didn’t you just leave it alone there’s no reason to scrub the marker off. It comes off eventually.
I took her to the ER again immediately. The doctor there reported the incident to CPS. Regardless of losing my job or not, I pulled her out immediately.
The facts in this case show that both the teacher and the intern in this classroom worked together with a towel and hand soap to get the mark her off her feet. The facts show that they were not watching the kids well enough because my daughter was able to take her shoes and socks off, find a marker and color all over herself.
I feel that they were desperate to get that marker off to cover up that They had neglected to watch the children as closely as they should. I couldn’t put socks and shoes on her for over a week. She was in so much pain the night that I brought her home that when she was done with her dinner, she asked me to carry her to the couch. I have a tough little girl. This is one of the only times that she has really been her in her life.
I spoke to the director about the situation and told him that it was completely unacceptable. Kirk Huddleston is the director. One of the things that he said to me is “ we have the Department of Child services coming here on Monday. How would you feel if you were that teacher?”
He had a complete lack of sympathy or remorse for the fact that his staff took matters into their own hands and neglected to do their job by caring for my child. He still to this day does not feel that these Teachers and interns Are to blame for their own actions.
This is our story. Thank you for letting us share this with you and we hope that this gives you what you need to decide on the right child care facility for you and your children.
I currently have my child at a different facility. We have been there a year now. I have not had any problems with them whatsoever. If my daughter is ever feeling a little bit out of the blue or she ever falls and hurts herself even a little bit they call and they let me know and they let me decide what action needs to be taken.
Just a little side note to you Kirk (Facility Owner & Director) both of these incidences are the only times I have EVER needed to call CPS. When I called them, they told me each time that the case was already being investigated. Word spreads fast. You can keep telling people around town that I'm a CPS caller and that they need to watch out for me. Not really good business if you ask me. It also just shows everyone else your true character. I haven't intentionally gone out of my way to bad mouth you to everyone I speak to. Im not sure why you don't think that the treatment my child received at your facility didn't grant an investigation either time. Both times I took her into the doctor, for her arm and for her feet, they reported it before I even had a chance to. Yes I did call and report each incident, but not before I spoke to SEVERAL professionals from different walks of life to make sure that I was doing the right thing. What my child when through in your care is completely UNACCEPTABLE. No. I will not take this review down this time. Do not contact me try to talk me out of placing this review here this time. Last time you took your entire facebook business page down just to cover it up. People will know what happened to us and our family.
