About the Provider

Description: We are so happy that you have taken the time to visit the Small World Learning Center website. We are located about one mile East of Santa Fe and about one mile West of Broadway on Mineral in the Westview Shopping Center in Littleton, Colorado.

Small World Learning Center is a family owned and operated childcare center for children ages six weeks to six years old. We pride ourselves in the fact that we are not a “corporate” or a “franchised” daycare center. Working in larger corporate centers is where we began our careers and fell in love with child care. We learned so much from a select group of people and for that we are grateful. While the big corporate centers meet the needs of many, there are some families that need just a little extra care and love. Each family and child is different, with different needs. Not every child learns in the traditional style. Our teachers have the ability to design their classroom curriculum to best fit the needs of the children. This flexibility allow us to truly serve the community that we live in.

Small World Learning Center currently has four class rooms: Infants, ages six weeks to 12 months; Young Toddlers, ages 12 months to 24 months, Toddlers, ages 24 months to 36 months; Preschool / Pre-kindergarten ages 36 months to 60 months. The safety and happiness of the children in these classrooms are our priority. We understand that it takes a special person to work with young children all day and we feel we have selected the perfect staff. Each staff member is certified in CPR, first aid and universal precaution. Each teacher is expected to know each child individually. By doing this, our teachers create and teach a curriculum that suits the class. Our goal is to fashion an environment where the children do not even know they are learning because of the creativity and love that is shown.

We have competitive pricing and schedules. We are happy to offer several discounts to help our families during these tough economic times. In most case we can find a schedule that works well for each family.

Our facility is secure. The front door has an individual code for each family and staff member. All the outside doors are locked for the security of the children.

Our facility is designed with large classrooms; this enables us to have plenty of space for learning centers and nap time. Our staff is thoroughly trained in the daily and closing routine of the center, so that, we can offer you a clean and inviting environment.

We look forward to hearing from you. Please call and schedule a tour today.

I have used this provider for less than 6 months

I read some of the above reviews and was surprised. The experience that I've had at Small World Learning Center has been totally different. I guess something could come up, but so far this place has been awesome.

My son is part of the preschool class. He loves his teacher Mr. Dirk, and really all the staff. Mr. Dirk tells me all about what he is teaching and what my son is learning each day. My son loves to talk about his day while we drive home. He is learning real skills that will help him excel in kindergarten.

The staff has always been very attentive and caring with all the children. And all the kids seem to love them. The teachers play with the kids.

The playground area is great. Big enough for everyone to do what they like. But not so big that kids can get lost or forgotten. And the staff has routines that keep a check on the kids.

Sure the place could be cleaner, the bathroom could use an air-freshener, but it's got little kids all over the place. You'd have to be OCD to keep it immaculate. I will say when I've dropped my son off at 7am it is very clean there. The kids are always washing their hands and really I've only seen one snotty noise.

As for the administration, they have been friendly and have worked with me if anything has come up.

I think it going to be hard to find a school that I like as much when my family moves.

I am so happy to have found small world learning center. The owners, teachers, and staff have been wonderful and I feel comfortable knowing that my son (18 mos) is so well cared for. As a first time mom, some of the teachers have been wonderful helping me navigate certain developmental phases and I can't tell them enough how much I appreciate their support. Even the teachers who are less experienced have been extremely receptive whenever I've had concerns and are more than willing to work with me and communicate regarding my son's development. I would highly recommend small world to others.

Horrible communication. Constant changes in staff without introduction to who is watching your child. They need to communicate more effectively with parents.

If I could, I wouldn't even give this a star. TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT/OWNERSHIP! My husband and I are first time parents and I did my fair share of daycare tours and this place really won me over with the "family" ownership and fake smiles. Their flexibility with my start date was never an issue and they always made me feel like there was no rush to get our daughter started until I was ready. As long as I gave them a 4-6 week notice of when she would start, they were fine! So I put my $75 Non-refundable deposit down plus a week’s work of tuition for her first week to start the process. In the coming months, I was able to have some family help out longer and I made sure to let the staff know. NO PROBLEM! Well, we just found out we have to move and our daughter was anticipated to start in about 6 weeks. I let them know we will no longer be able to attend and understood that my deposit would not be returned. I spoke with Todd. He was very blunt with me, to a point of being upset that I would even ask for my money back because of the "thousands" of dollars they have had to turn down by holding a place for our daughter. He didn’t have any of his dates right about when I toured, when I put the deposit down, when I spoke to someone, etc. 1st problem, COMMUNICATION! So why were they so flexible with her start date? He then told me that he "could return the money, but he is choosing NOT to." He talked down to me, interrupted me every time I tried to speak, and literally made me cry on the phone. He has no respect or compassion for a first time mother so I am guessing he is a very unhappy, selfish, greedy man. Haley, his daughter the Director, was so calm and cool. That is another reason that won me over since I feel I am the same way... but don't let it fool you! Todd her father is behind it all and I am disgusted with his business decisions. Frankly, I am relieved that the skeletons of that place came out before we actually enrolled. I would not trust anyone in that place to care for my daughter more than I could throw them if it is a place being run by TODD. My husband later called to get some clarification on why we would not get our tuition money back. Todd, again, was completely disrespectful and said that if we wanted to see anything in writing to bring it to his attorney. Nowhere in our contract says we should not get our tuition money back. My husband said he could come by after work to pick up the form I signed to just see that we should not receive it back. Todd's response was, "If you come by, you aren't getting anything!".... he also said in a very rude sarcastic tone to him, "you are now using your daughter as a pawn, great parenting!" It isn't so much about the financial aspect now, it is the principal and the fact that Todd told me he was "choosing" to not refund me. Keep the deposit, I get that, I thought that was the point of a deposit....But to keep tuition monies that were never used? WRONG! I would not want my daughter to step foot in a terribly run facility. Their values are nothing what I thought and they clearly must be very tight financially if they can't return a new family 300 dollars??? Losing "thousands" of dollars? He can't honestly believe that is true. I guess some people are only in it to make a quick buck off of someone, no matter the cost.

I have used this provider for less than 6 months

The communication pass down is terrible. From the beginning it was about the check, the money. Haley who is running the school is young, maybe 23, and comes across as someone who is trying to put on airs of leadership. “I’m a business person!” (noted* there is a lot going on there and a lot to take care of ) And that is what you get, perfunctory hellos, your bill is ready, maybe a quick smile that is quickly put away before someone notices the persona break “I’m a business person” . The mother and the Father, Todd both work there as well, owners I’m sure. Mom will not look you in the eyes when talking just asks for payment behind the desk. Dad, Todd stays in the back and runs the accounting, they should try to keep him in the back because he is a jerk. Dislikes- 1. My second bill (which is just a number on the bottom of your kid’s check-in screen) had an unexplained $40 added to it, when I asked why there was an increase I was told by the owner’s wife that it was for summer camp and that they brought things in and did projects that required materials. I said, “Oh ok exciting!” I then asked if there were invoices sent out? I was told by her “no” but that she would mention it to her husband, Todd. Two weeks later I had the same increase, Todd was behind the desk and I asked him about the increase (this was immediately after I dropped off a white T-shirt for tye-dye day, “guess white t-shirts aren’t included in the $40 increases?”) and he explained that it was for events the following month. When asked if there was a breakdown of what these events are he snorted and exclaimed” You’ve had plenty of chances to read about these events!” Me dumbfounded, “Umm how again?” This conversation digressed to unhealthy points on both of our sides…but what it comes down to is I shouldn’t talk to “staff” (wife) about invoices, I should pay attention to what is going on around me, I shouldn’t question what money additions are added or my daughter will sit in detention while others enjoy events. Later the next day I was given a pamphlet that explains the summer camp program that would probably have avoided my even questioning a $40 increase. As we were new to the school we missed the message that had obviously gone out at some point. Anyway left a very bad taste in my mouth. 2. Kids are crying every time I do pickups. I noticed this when I first dropped off and was a little worried, should have trusted gut. It was not like this at our last school. 3. Almost every day there is one kid or another in detention behind the desk when I go to pick up. He/she is normally crying or sitting head down while staff works around him/her. I haven’t been in enough schools to know if this is normal but I don’t like it and would flip if it was my kid. 4. The smell, why does it smell like that? I just went and looked at a few schools (much better, cleaner, and priced the same) that don’t have that smell. 5. I was there for 4 weeks before I found out that every Friday was show in tell day and that my daughter hadn’t been bringing anything. How did I miss this? 6. I was there two weeks before my access code was activated to the door. “Knock Knock, here we are again.” “Oh sorry, I will make sure to definitely get that turned on today, it is tricky for us” oh something shiny… 7. No email communication, no print outs, no explanations, no social media… Really no email! If you don’t see it on the random messenger on the check-in screen you don’t get it. This is an expensive school and it is not well run. There are plenty of schools (kicking myself, plenty) in the immediate areas that are better for the same price. Heck, Highlands Ranch Learning Center has a pool and a professional cook for the same price! This school makes me cringe. Don’t settle.

I was immediately impressed when I toured Small World Learning Center!! It is very friendly, well staffed and fun! I was even more impressed when the staff offered to send me a picture of my son on his first day, which they did!! That made my day and I saw that I did not have to worry about my son being at this center!!!

We chose this center because of its location and reasonable prices. Since enrolling our daughter we have come to know the staff and find them to be very loving and attentive. Each day I have a peace of mind when I get both verbal and written feedback on how the day went. I know that my daughter is being loved and well cared for, getting the personal attention she needs.

I take my daughter to Small World and they taking outstanding care of her! The staff is always friendly and my daughter likes going to school every day! I feel completely comfortable with them and would not think twice about taking any subsequent children there! Plus, they are the most affordable daycare in the area.

Disappointed Mar 28, 2013

This place was terrible. The staff was under-educated, rude and incompetent. The facility was often dirty and seemed to have an open door policy for any passer-by regardless of the "security code". On more than one occasion I came in to find my child's "teacher" entertaining her boyfriend and completely ignoring her classroom or completely missing from the classroom all together. When I confronted her about it she said it was fine with her mother, the "director". Needless to say we don't go here anymore and I strongly suggest you think twice before considering your child here. There are far better facilities. Save your money and your piece of mind.
