I have used this provider for more than 6 months
Writing reviews is not very easy for me, but when it comes to my 2-year child and how it can benefit other families, I decided to write this review. I hope that this detailed write-up will assist you on choosing the best daycare for your child/children. Following is a log of incidents that my child and my family endured from August 2018 to May 2019 at Puentes:
1. Bleach incident – Daycare assistant, Lorena poured bleach into cups and placed a cup on the edge of a changing station that was easily reachable by children. My 1-1/2-year old (at that time) reached and grabbed the cup and poured the bleach onto his face and upper body. I received a phone call from Puentes and was informed that my child had vomited and was not feeling well. The daycare assistants shoved his bleached clothes into his backpack and did not care to put them into a plastic bag or wash them. His clothes and backpack were ruined after this hazardous incident. I never received a courtesy call to check on the well being of my child or offer a refund for the damaged clothing and/or backpack. I had to personally contact Trudy (owner of Puentes) for a refund. I could have and should have reported this incident as a safety hazard. This incident should have never occurred, because as safety 101 you never pour or use bleach around the presence of children. This daycare needs to incorporate a safety training class for all daycare workers.
2. Missing jacket – After work, I picked up my child on a very cold evening on November 21. I noticed that my child’s jacket was missing from his backpack. I asked several assistants of the whereabouts of my child’s jacket and no one knew what had happened to the jacket. One assistant did mention that the children did not go outside to play because of the weather conditions, so that meant that whoever took the jacket they had to have had to reach into his backpack to obtain it. Daycare assistant, Diana was working in the room where my child was being watched, at that time. I had to ask her several times about the jacket and felt like I had to pull an answer out of her and admit that her family member had taken the jacket. Long story short, I had to take my child out of the daycare without a jacket on a very cold evening. Questions that I asked myself: 1) why would an assistant pull a jacket from a backpack that did not belong to her or her child; 2) Why would an assistant allow a child to leave the daycare without a jacket on a very cold evening; and 3) why was she withholding and not admit that she personally pulled the jacket out of my child’s backpack for her own personal use? Furthermore, after I received the jacket from Diana from a long Thanksgiving weekend, she did not offer an apology and the jacket was dirty and soiled.
3. Fever and cough – This past winter, I was contacted by the daycare and they reported that my child had a fever and bad cough and needed to be removed from the daycare. I arrived within 10 minutes and could not locate my child, and to my surprise he was outside in a 35-degree weather. I immediately questioned why my ill child was outside and was told that Trudy instructed all assistants that all children had to go outside to play. I took my child to his pediatrician and shared this incident. The pediatrician gave me a doctor’s note instructing the daycare to not send my child outside when he had a fever and/or cough. When I shared this information with Trudy her response was, “If you do not want your kid outside because he is not feeling well, then its best he stays home.”
4. Constant illness – My child was constantly ill several days every month since he started at this daycare. This past April, my child was ill for approximately 3 weeks. In addition, my mother dropped by for a brief visit to see her grandchild for approximately 15-20 minutes this past October, and immediately became ill with flu symptoms. She was ill for approximately 4 days with severe headaches, body aches, sore throat, fever, and a cough. By the way, my mother is very healthy and does not get ill often or easily. My mother noticed the dirty/dusty and filthy floors, rugs, carpets, toys, and heat vents and asked me about all the piles of boxes in certain rooms. I questioned Trudy about the sanitation and she informed me that they sanitized once a week.
5. Gossip – This daycare is all about gossip (i.e., who is the favorite and everyone has their own groups). The daycare workers talk negatively about each other and parents. I also learned that they pick and choose on who they accept into their daycare center – this is called discrimination.
After all the above incidents my husband and I decided to remove our child from this daycare. Puentes does not care about the well being of the children or their parents’ best interest.
After searching for a new daycare for my child, I discovered that there are many other better daycare centers in the Treasure Valley.
We recently gave our two weeks’ notice on April 27, 2019. During these two weeks we have been visiting and trying out other daycares and have decided on a new daycare. We immediately noticed and saw how clean this new daycare was compared to Puentes, which included indoors and outdoors. I asked about sanitation procedures and was informed that they sanitized daily. I also have noticed my child much calmer, sleeps better and has much less tantrums (does not slap, push or shove), and has not been ill since being removed from Puentes. As his parents, we are much happier knowing that my child is in a cleaner and more positive environment where he is really cared and loved. We will never return or refer Puentes to other parents!
