Description: N.I.C.E., Inc. was founded by parents of the Roxbury/Jamaica Plain community to address their child care needs. They decided to start their own childcare program. These moms created Neighborhood Involvement for Children’s Education. After moving from temporary space, they opened a center for 50 preschoolers in 1973, at 3297 Washington Street behind Brookside clinic.
N.I.C.E. first became accredited from the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs (N.A.E.Y.C.) in 1995. Going beyond minimum licensing standards, accredited programs make a commitment to excellence. N.I.C.E. renovated an abandoned building near Egleston Square. The space, designed specifically for children, welcomed the relocation of N.I.C.E. in 1999.
N.I.C.E. is a multicultural/bilingual early education center, which fosters children’s self-esteem and provides a stimulating environment where each child can develop cognitively, physically, emotionally and socially at his or her own pace.
