I have used this provider for more than 6 months

I am so sadden to write that I would NEVER recommend Ms. Karla's Daycare. I was so disappointed due to the fact I had enrolled my child into her sister's daycare next door for the younger children 3 months- 1year (basically when they learn to walk) and then pushed into Ms. Karla's daycare afterwards. Her sister's daycare went fairly well. They sent pictures and communicated most of the time effectively. Upon going to Ms. Karla's things quickly changed. To be honest there were a lot of things that were very unsettling to me. The lack of communication between Ms. Karla and myself, I never knew what my child did daily. Ms. Karla had a young lady working with her and felt as if it was truly her whom was taking care of the children while Ms. Karla was up stairs most of the day, I later learned this when my child learned to speak. I did like the fact that they spoke Spanish, ironically my child learned Spanish before learning English, they only spoke Spanish to my child and the other children. I never received any projects, or arts and crafts etc. from what they did all day. I also didn't like that in the afternoon she would put the kids down for a 3-3.5 hr. NAP!!! everyday, my child had trouble sleeping at night, I petitioned with the other parents to see if the nap could be shorted but to no avail. Even though as the parents we paid Ms. Karla to care for our children it seemed as if people were being persuaded by whatever Ms. Karla wanted and needed for us, it was never the parents concerns or inputs of how their child needed to be cared for, we were NOT able to adjust dietary needs, care needs etc. There was an incident that my child came home with pinch marks under their arm pit. It was very evident that someone was picking my child up roughly and or pinching them on purpose. This happened before my child could necessarily speak. Another child received nursemaids elbow from the facility as well. That parent and I were very concerned about the physical care that was taking place. We expressed our concerns and showed pictures of the marks and our concerns were completely ignored. The concrete stairs that the children had to walk down to get into the center, my child had just learned to walk and was being rushed down the stairs, my child apparently tripped and fell face first into the concrete and grew a grapefruit lump on the forehead, I arrived to pick up my child and Ms. Karla absolutely FAILED to call me when the incident happened. She was standing with my child crying applying ice to the head and stated that "It just happened 20 mins ago!" I ask why I wasn't called immediately. There was an incident where there where hornets nest's that had accumulated outside in the playground area and many parents ask what was to be done about this concerned, as the children would get stung. Ms. Karla Pinterest an idea of hang brown paper bags outside saying it would deter them. Finally I had to call pest control to go out and assess the situation and finally after 3 months she called an exterminator to get rid of the hornets nest. She continued to say they weren't hornets and that they don't sting. My child also would come home with whelps on the skin from mosquito bites and again Ms. Karla did nothing to eradicate the mosquitos in her back yard play area. I finally just paid for the service for the area to be sprayed because it was so bad. I also didn't like the fact that I still had to pay for a 2 week vacation during the summer time with no child care but still tuition was due. They followed the school system for snow closing and holidays as well. The lack of communication, care and trust was obsolete. I pulled my child out as soon as I could find a new place to go around 2.5 yrs old. I pray that my child hopefully is the only one to experience the difficulties that we faced. I only ask that if your child attends this daycare to be assertive in communicating your expectations and needs for your child. Ms. Karla was also very strict about the time frame in dropping off and picking up kids, there was NO OPEN door policy at all. She has cameras in her front window and knows when a parent is approaching to make sure she is in place to be ready for you when you come for your child. Again I do not recommend this daycare. I understand that it is hard to find a good daycare within this location of VA as well as the price is one of the lower ones. However "I guess you do get what you pay for." My second child absolutely DID not attend the facility.
