I have used this provider for less than 6 months

Stay very far away from this punishment factory. They have children do push ups as discipline. The director-owner Kim told me to my face that they do in fact do this and they are a team, it's a buddy up system. Meaning, one child should tell the other not to do this or that so they don't have to do push ups. She stated they did it this way so the teacher's wouldn't be yelling at the kids. I replied with firstly, I don't give you permission to use this form or punishment and was told yes, this what we do hear. Secondly, I said, this isn't a trade off, do push ups so the teacher doesn't yell. The teacher shouldn't be yelling at the children anyway. The have children from old enough to sit in a walker to grade school sit up against the wall (on the floor) until 7:50 am and supposedly at 5 everyday, though my school age says they went after snack. And mixing all ages with only one staff member watching to avoid paying your teachers is disgusting. The owner/director has a degree in accounting, not child care. My child was told by two separate teachers that they would flick her in her head. Their contract they want you to sign says they provide breakfast, they sure don't. No cot, only a thin mat to sleep on and they require all kids to rest on said mat for two hours a day if they are there all day. They say that's a state mandate, it is NOT! The provide a water bottle, they don't wash that water bottle. The verbally abuse the kids and it's run like a prison. They have been reported multiple times, yet nothing happens. It is MY mission to make sure this stops.

McCoy and Littlejohn 2017-03-26 01:16:32

There were many things that were good about McCoy and Littlejohn, however, I give it only 1 star. Reasons: Special needs children were placed withOUT training or extra personnel needed to help them. Staff was NOT allowed to communicate with parents of special needs children. This was a disservice to children who needed extra care and attention as well as other children and the caregivers. Also, the home cooked meals were tasty, but often there was not enough food for kids.Leftover food was scraped from plate of child to give to others! There were never seconds available. Very young children were required to do daily handwriting worksheets despite the fact that this was not developmentally age appropriate for them. Often 8-10 children were seated around a table meant for 6. This created unnecessary behavior problems as children did not have enough space to eat or "work". The playground areas outside were very nice and age appropriate. However, children under 3 yrs old were required to walk holding hands around the neighborhood for 30 minutes several times a week. Being outdoors: great. Expecting children to walk for that length of time without running, hopping, skipping, searching, exploring, playing was NOT appropriate. Overall, the center has a high turnover in both staff and children. There was not enough staff to take care of high need times such as post meal and nap prep. Also, the center was kept hot in the Spring and summer (above 80 degrees) in order to save money. The director has a degree in accounting not education or early childhood education. She is compassionate and patient, but she does not understand child development and what should be reasonably be expected of children and staff.

I have used this provider for more than 6 months

I have used McCoy and Little John's for over a year now. I enjoyed that they prayed for every meal and encouraged faith learning at early age. I fell in love with some of the teachers. However I pulling my daughter immediately from their care. The owner is stubborn and behind closed doors not kind to the children. My daughter was always hungry. For a time I had to sneak snacks in to the teacher for the class to ensure my child wouldn't go hungry during the day. (before the owner caught me and reprimanded me) I befriended 2 employees there and both reported black mold in the sippy cups that the kids would drink from.(they do not run them through a dishwasher) They had brought this to the owners attention- and she never addressed it. I had reservations about the owner for quite some time but had convinced myself that as long as my child was safe and being watched by their caring teacher that I could continue having my child there. BUT NO LONGER. Please guard yourself and children. I am praying the owner feel some conviction and consider the children's safety and well being first.

My Grandson attends this day care - I am extremely picky and over protective with him, so at first I asked my daughter to reconsider any day care. However I went for a vist, and have visited many times without warning and found the daycare to be very clean, structured, and loving toward all the children. I recommend the Day Car...the director is alwasy available to answer my "many" questions - does not get offended, and I believe when I have a concern she handles it quickly and discreetly. The picture on this site, is not the daycare though, somehow the wrong address is stated.

Please, for your children sake, do not send your kids to McCoy and Littlejohns. There is a reason why that place has a huge student turn over rate. Although the administration smiles and make you feel at home, what happens behind the classroom doors will almost never be reported to the parent. DHS can only do so much, but it is to your good judgement to make sure your child is 100% safe by not enrolling your child to this facility.
