I am am employee of Little Wings Learning Center, and have been employed here since 1999. I decided I would write a review, to explain why I have been here for almost 20 years, and why I think it’s a quality center to bring your child to. I, personally love teaching young children, and love watching their excitement as they learn new things, and I think it’s great I can be part of that learning experience. I have been in this field for over 40 years, and I believe this is by far the best place I have worked at...
Little Wings provides a unique learning experience for your child, the rooms are well equipped with learning opportunities for each child’s age level..The teachers are experienced and well prepared to work with their age groups. The teachers are always furthering their expertise through continuing education and workshops...speaking for myself and my co teacher, this is more than just a job, we are learning daily, as well as our children, always open to implementing new ideas that might further peak the curiousity and learning of the children!!!
I would highly recommend bringing your child here, as we have a well trained staff, quality care, a clean environment for the teachers as well as the children, and a supportive directorial administration, and owners that care about their staff as well as their clients!!!
Again, Little Wings Child Development Center in Rantoul, Il is a fun, safe, clean place to be, whether as an employee or a young child....a place where learning is fun!!!
I would like to begin by stating, I did not want to have to write this review, but felt it was necessary for others.
As a means to validate what I am about to say I would like to share that I had worked for Little Wings from 1999-2003 as a teacher’s aid and my mom was a teacher for Little Wings from 1998-2006ish.
I understand firsthand how stressful it is to work in childcare, how easily one burns out, and how under paid childcare workers are.
In addition to, my older children attended Little Wings from 2001-2007. Granted this was over a decade ago, but I feel I had a clear expectation as to how the facility should present itself.
Yesterday I scheduled to tour Little Wings in order to find placement for my 18 month old daughter. I was running behind, but to make sure I kept my appointment to tour I asked my mom to meet me there with my daughter at the designated time agreed on with one of the directors. Upon arrival they had told my mom that I had called to cancel my tour. This was not true, but misunderstandings happen, so no big deal. They were willing to accommodate us and allowed us to tour anyway.
While touring the facility I was absolutely appalled. Most notably, the smell was overwhelming. The facility itself was absolutely filthy. The floors looked like they had not been cleaned in months and were covered in dirt & grit. I noticed used paper plates wedged between wall partitions and the floors. Each classroom we visited had filth built up on the toys and shelves. When reaching for door knobs I felt them covered in gunk. My skin was crawling just being inside of that place. Now please understand, I am not a clean freak by any means. A mess here and there is one thing, but the entire facility was covered in filth to the point I just couldn’t even believe it. I specifically asked the person who provided the tour how often do they clean their toys and shelves and without missing a beat she said they clean them daily which was obviously untrue. Not only that, but teachers were yelling at other teachers from across their class rooms even though they knew we were there to tour. In addition to that, I witnessed some of the teachers forcing 3 year olds to sit in one place for what had to be a solid 20 minutes without engaging them while they gossiped. I fell it is unreasonable to expect young children to sit still for lengthy periods of time without engaging them in any activity. I mean, it was just unbelievable.
In conclusion, I was very hopeful that my daughter would be able to share the same experiences that her brothers had several years ago. However, that is no longer an option. I could not in good conscious allow her to enroll after our most recent experience.
