Description: In 2003, the Rantoul Head Start program moved to a renovated building on the former Air Force base on Illinois Route 45. Architects designed a child and family-friendly facility serving families living or working in Rantoul and surrounding rural areas. In addition to eight classrooms, the building has a multi-purpose room, a kitchen, offices, a conference room and a library. The center has a playground designed for infants and toddlers as well as a playground for children 3 to 5-years-old.
The program offers full-day, school-day and part-day classes for children 3 to 5 years of age. For children under 3-years-old, full-day and 3 1/2 hour sessions are available. Transportation is provided for the preschoolers enrolled in school-day and part-day classes. All meals are prepared at the center.
Head Start collaborates with the Spectrum Early Childhood program to provide dual enrollment for children with a diagnosed disability. For children with a disability who are not dually enrolled with Spectrum, Champaign County Head Start/Early Head Start (CCHS) contracts with individual therapist to provide on-site therapy. CCHS coordinates with Child and Family Connections to bring therapy services on-site to any children younger than 3-years-old who have a delay or disability.
