About the Provider

The Kent State University Child Development Center's philosophy is grounded in social constructivism. This means that we believe knowledge is constructed rather than acquired through an active process of exploring, investigating, and playing. The curriculum, which is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, is built upon the notion that every child is capable and competent.

Our approach is based on the following premises:

Children are full of potential, have many ideas and theories, and an eagerness to learn.
Joyful learning is promoted daily.
Time spent outdoors is essential to a child's well-being.
Respect is accorded to all members of the community through encouraging and understanding multiple points of view.
The environment promotes interaction and cooperation.
Listening is a central role of the adult. Listening is reflected in the on-going documentation and study of children's ideas and investigations.
Communication is a reciprocal process involving the home and the school.
Parents are viewed as partners with teachers.
Additional Information: This facility participates in the federally funded Child Care Food Program, and meets USDA nutrition requirements for meals and snacks; Quality Rating: 1 star; Provider first licensed on 08/13/1970.
