I have used this provider for less than 6 months
I would give zero stars if I could. My child attended this daycare for less than 4 weeks. My child became fearful of going to daycare, they would cry in their sleep and wake up crying during the night. I thought it was separation anxiety, but it was so much worse. I feel sick thinking about how I tried to convince my child to have a good day at school when in reality they were being yelled at and received absolutely no love and compassion. This place should be shut down.
We wish we hadn't enrolled our child with The Joy of Child Learning. Jasmin advertises a 1:6 teacher-to-child ratio; this ratio does not include her own children. This, along with what we experienced, gave us the impression that Jasmin was overwhelmed and unable or unwilling to provide 1:1, focused, or even attentive time to the children. We also had concerns that Jasmin hadn't been and wasn't being entirely honest and forthright. We left as soon as we were able to obtain care from another provider.
Jasmin's expectations did not seem to align with developmental needs. More specifically, Jasmin seemed to expect young toddlers to behave as preschoolers. For instance, our young toddler was at first permitted to bring a comfort item, but became upset when forced to participate in show-and-tell and share their item with the other children. Jasmin then prohibited our child from having a comfort item because of this behavior. This is not a developmentally appropriate expectation or response (https://www.verywellfamily.com/forcing-your-kid-to-share-4126426).
Similar to the previous reviewer, our child also was consistently and excessively thirsty at pickup. We also experienced Jasmin's husband watching the children without or with very little notice; we weren't given the opportunity to meet her husband or provided assurances in the form of clearances or bona fides. On more than one occasion, Jasmin notified us of an issue our child was having 2 or more weeks after the issue purportedly began. Our child developed some concerning behavior and regressed in several ways while under Jasmin's care, most notably developing a seeming fear of being around other children in class/daycare settings and of having bowel movements. All of these resolved within a week of switching to a provider with an actual 1:6 ratio.
We regret that our review is still posted on Jasmin's website; our relationship seemed to begin deteriorating after we were solicited for and provided our positive review. We do not recommend The Joy of Child Learning for childcare needs.
The Joy of Child Learning advertises as a 1:6 ratio. In practice, she runs a 1:8 or 1:9 ratio out of a small living room. When we asked about this inconsistency, she became unprofessional and agitated. She did not provide advance notice if her husband would be watching the children, nor did she provide any reassurance of his clearances or background. Our daughter came home thirsty and behaviorally regressed while at this program. It is only a one STAR program through the Keystone STARS program. The Joy of Child Learning is very clean and she provides a consistent daily schedule.
