What is the Green City Preschool program like? It is a place your child can learn and grow in a safe and nurturing environment. Our curriculum covers five areas, literacy, math, science, social and emotional development and physical development. Our math goals include, number and operations, geometry and spatial sense, patterns and relationships, measurement, exploring data. For our literacy goals we represent feelings and ideas in a variety of ways. We use language to communicate ideas, feelings, questions, or to solve problems. They learn to listen for different purposes, use writing as a means of expression/communication. We also apply early reading skills and attend to sounds in language. In science we look at three areas, physical science, life science and earth and space. In all three areas we explore physical properties, investigate, solve problems and represent observations in a variety of ways. In the area of physical development, health and safety, we develop gross and fine motor skills, practices healthy behaviors and practices safe behaviors. In the area of emotional development we work on exhibits self-awareness, develop self-control, and develop personal responsibility. We also work on building relationships and working cooperatively with others. Develop an approach to learning is also part of the social and emotional goals. We work on taking initiative, exhibits creativity, showing confidence, displaying persistence and using problem solving skills.
