Corrective Action: A staff member was observed handling children roughly in the manner in which she picked the children up, pulled them down toward her, moved them from one place to another, placed them on the diaper-changing table and on their nap mats. Additionally, the staff member was observed forcing the children down on their nap mats when they have tried to get up during nap time. The staff member was observed throwing away children’s snack foods when the children failed to wash their hands before sitting at the table or when they made a mess of some of their lunch food. Ensure positive behavior management techniques are used at all times and that children are not handled roughly or spoken to rudely or disrespectfully. Ensure children are not deprived of snacks/food as a form of punishment. The center owner has reviewed the licensing regulations regarding prohibited acts with all staff and had them sign off on the review. The staff member must complete the following six hours of quality-assured positive behavior management trainings, which can be found on the Better Kid Care website: Dealing with Anger-The Children and Yours, Interactions Matter: Positive Teacher-Child Interaction Strategies, and Resilient Caregivers: ‘Bouncing Back’ from Stress. Submit positive behavior management training certificates to OCCL by January 2, 2020.

On the date of this complaint visit, all the classrooms were repeatedly observed and were within appropriate staff/child ratio.

Corrective Action: On September 10, 2019, a staff member physically attacked another staff member while in the presence of children in care. Staff members must model respectful communication interactions when relating to children and other staff members while at the center. The center's owner verbally reviewed with staff the need for staff to clearly communicate with administration when they are need of classroom coverage for personal reasons and the level of immediacy of the concern. Forward written documentation of this policy to OCCL.
