About the Provider
Christots Montessori School is nestled on wooded acreage away from the busy areas of western Shawnee. When the weather is nice, you will find the children gardening or exploring nature outdoors. (Many times the deer graze in the pasture outside our back window.)
Indoors, the classroom is run much like the early one-room school house, with blended ages together in the same room to enhance the joy of learning. Children are allowed to freely choose from a number of developmentally appropriate activities – learning at their own, individual pace and according to their ability. Our Montessori approach emphasizes learning through all five senses, not just through listening, watching, or reading. Therefore, learning is an exciting process of discovery, leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning.
Our reading program is hands-on. Other subjects studied are geography (i.e., the continents), language, history, math and science.
To accommodate your child’s cultural needs, we offer private piano lessons, spanish, creative movement. We also have cultural arts day which is Friday with music and art.
Christots accepts children from 18 months through age 6. There are three distinct programs by age group: toddlers (18 months to age 3) and primary / kindergarten. Toddlers are taught at our Woodland facility, and primary / kindergarten students learn at our Midland location.
All of our teachers are certified Montessori teachers. Their emphasis is on fostering the best in each child and teaching each child according
to their individual interests and strengths.
