Description: Burns Valley Elementary School is situated near the center of the city of Clearlake, a small populated city in Lake County in Northern California. Our small populated town allows for a family atmosphere. We currently house 410 students on our 5 ½ acre campus. We teach kindergarten through 6th grades. We have just completed a huge phase of our physical plant improvement by completely restructuring the insides of classrooms 14,15,16,17 and 18 and kindergarten rooms 1 and 2. We have a brand new gym floor in out MPR along with brand new bathrooms under the breezeway on the north end of the campus. Even though our main building has been standing since 1935 our campus has a new and fresh feel to it since the work has been done. We want to thank our voters for the bond that was passed a few years back and the wonderful work that has been done on our campus.
Our reading curriculum, Houghton Mifflin, and our mathematics curriculum Harcourt, have provided our students a great wealth of knowledge as they are fully aligned to the California state standards. We received both the state adopted materials in science and social science this past summer so we feel confident that this will indeed help up us in our improvement on our CST and Cat 6 scores. Although we did make a slight decline in our API this past Spring we do feel confident in what we are doing here at Burns Valley Elementary School and will turn those scores around. We take pride as the only school in this district not to have had any probationary or Program improvement status from the state since the inception of the state’s testing system. We are currently working under the High Priority grant which gives our school $400 per ADA per school year. We have a teacher coach helping with the implementation of both our language arts and mathematics programs. The coach is working with our 6 brand new teachers working at the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade levels which is a huge blessing. We need to make a one point gain on API to continue to receive the High Priority grant monies.
BVS continues to take pride in our quality curriculum and superb teachers who deliver the material to our students. We currently have highly qualified teachers who work hard every day teaching the skills that your child needs to succeed. We believe what we are doing here .
