A former family I worked with had a very difficult time getting the staff and the director to listen to their concerns about their child. This child was only coming for the summer camp as he was to start in he elementary school in the fall. The mother contacted me in desperation because her child's needs were not being met. Having ADHD and trust issues made it hard for the child to fit in. The director did not know how to help acclimate this child, and instead demeaned him and punished behavior that she did not understand (stimming, an inability to sit still for long periods of time). Having had great success with this child myself, the parents asked if I could give them some much needed advice, but after just a couple of weeks the parents decided to remove him for the rest of the summer.
