About the Provider
Our curriculum focuses on developing pre-k skills and reading readiness literacy skills.
Through fun games and activities your child will learn colors, shapes, counting to 20 and especially the alphabet letters and their sounds.
Our basic kindergarten-readiness curriculum is “Letter of the Week.” We explore each letter in many ways. Young children learn best when they are active and using all their senses, so we’ll experience each letter not only by sight and sound, but also touch, taste and movement. For example, during letter B week, we’ll have snacks of bananas, blueberries, bread and bagels, play with baseballs and basketballs; in the science room we’ll read about bears, butterflies and beavers and in the art room working with brown and blue paint. We’ll include exercise by jumping for j, dancing for d, marching for m, playing hopscotch and hula hoops for h, running a race for r and push-ups for p.
Science is another curriculum area I’d like to focus on at Wind in the Willows. The sciences curriculum includes animals, plants, seasons, weather and the environment. We’ll talk about different kinds of animals, including mammals, reptiles, birds and insects, and where animals live, and what they eat, etc. We’ll also learn about the 4 seasons and spend time outside observing the changes that occur with each season. We have a short nature trail on the property and in good weather we’ll do a nature walk every day so the children can observe birds, collect leaves in the Fall, touch tree bark, etc. In the Spring we will plant a school vegetable garden outside and each child will also get their own personal planter box, add soil and seeds and care for their plants.
