Description: It is with great pleasure and an incredible sense of optimism that I bring you greetings and well wishes. My name is Toi Davis, and I have the distinct honor and privilege of being appointed the new principal of University Park Elementary School. In the coming weeks, it is my intent to meet with members of our school community (parents and staff) as we endeavor to continue the tradition of academic excellence for which University Park is known. Together we also will strive to reach new heights academically and continue to develop socially responsible citizens prepared to meet the challenges of an ever changing world.
Just to offer you a brief background, I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Towson University and continued my professional preparation at the College of Notre Dame where I attained my Master of Arts Degree in Education Leadership. I proudly come to Prince Georges County Public Schools after spending the past seventeen years as both a teacher and administrator in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Specifically, I have worked the last eight years as an assistant principal in Montgomery County Public Schools at Potomac Elementary, Forest Knolls Elementary and Glen Haven Elementary School.
I believe very strongly that what makes a school successful are communication, collaboration and community. In all of my experiences, I have worked tirelessly to ensure that school is much more than a building, but rather, it is a haven and laboratory for ideas, hopes, dreams, and aspirations. As such, I welcome the opportunity to work with you in partnership to ensure that every child feels emotionally safe, secure, and encouraged to become intellectual risk takers. It is in this environment that authentic learning flourishes and thrives, and children are able to realize their dreams.
On a personal note, I am a wife, mother and resident of Prince Georges County! My husband (Dwayne) and I have two wonderful children (Jabari 12 and Sala 9), both enrolled in Prince George’s County Public Schools. In many ways, this appointment is a homecoming for me.
I look forward to meeting you and hearing from you firsthand regarding your ideas for how we can grow and build upon the great tradition of University Park Elementary School.
