I have used this provider for more than 6 months

It’s taken me a couple of months to decide if I wanted to write a review but ultimately decided that I needed to. There were no reviews on this center available to me when we decided to start a relationship with the Lively Center, so I wanted to get my feedback out there for anyone that may need it in the future. When we did our tour with Lively we were very impressed by the management and their philosophy on early childhood development. They shared several principles that we found satisfactory and narrowed down our choice of provider to Lively. Before I move into our experience with Lively, I should preface by saying this was our first experience with childcare and we were starting a 2 year old. I give that warning because it definitely took some time for our child to adjust and this was partially because in his entire life he had never been left with strangers. Now to our experience… The first day we picked up our child we asked about the communication (small paperwork with daily mood/food intake/restroom activity) we had been promised in our interview. The young girl quickly filled one out and handed it to us. That was the ONLY day we ever got any sort of feedback on what our son did all day at the Lively Center. From that day forward, we never got a note about meal intake, restroom activity, etc. Please note we were in the middle of potty training. The only way we could measure the success was if he had a dirty pair of undies hanging on his hook. The teachers we picked him up from weren’t the teachers he was with during the day so that too could not contribute to feedback. For many parents, this may have been a reason to start looking elsewhere, but with this being our first experience we didn’t have anything to go off of so we went with it. Another red flag came when my mom had to pick my child up for me. She arrived at the Center and asked for my child by name; they released him to her without ever asking who she is, what her name was, checking to see if she was on the approved list of contacts we provided or anything. My mom picked him up on multiple other occasions and never once did someone ask her name, for ID, etc. This terrified me and still does, so I want to make everyone aware that the process that is laid out in the handbook is not followed. It is likely not followed because of the next red flag we experienced with the Center… Teacher/Caretaker turnover… When we started we had a 2 great young ladies taking care of our child, he grew to really like them and eventually he even quit crying when we left him in the mornings. Sadly, over the course of 3 months both of these women left the Center. I was made aware of this change by my two year old, not through a communication with the Center. As previously mentioned there is no communication coming from the Center. Initially there was a monthly newsletter but that must have been too much to keep up with so it changed to a quarterly newsletter right after we started. After those two girls left, we were leaving our child with a new face almost every day we dropped him off. When we questioned the staff situation to the director she complained about the wages of paying PT employees, the struggle of keeping staff and her usage of a temp agency. Eventually they did hire someone who stuck around through the rest of our time with Lively and she made some improvements to the class our child was in. Unfortunately, she wasn’t full time, we were still dropping him off and picking him up from different faces day to day and no one could really provide information on the day to day experience our child was having. My child attended Lively for 8 months, after the two teachers mentioned above left the Center, he cried every single day we took him there. I will take responsibility for part of this, his personality and part time care (2 days a week) certainly contributed. However, since leaving Lively we have started a new day care and after just a few weeks there, he is excited to go, he doesn’t cry and he is the happiest I’ve ever seen him, when we pick him up. So, I don’t take responsibility for all of it. Now that I do have childcare experience to go off of, I can see all of the wrong and terrible things that were happening at the Lively Center and I am so sad that we wasted 8 months of our child’s life there.
