After having a premature baby during Covid I was very skeptical of putting my son in daycare. After looking into OVER 60 PLACES for my son to go to Daycare, I had my heart set on Rocking Horse. I talked with Paula multiple times over the span of a year and she was awesome! Originally I was on the list for the Toddler 1 room as I was putting my son in at 1 year old. Because of some delayed development Paula did not take him right away for his safety, but was willing to hold the spot for him for FOUR MONTHS! This to me is amazing that she was willing to do that for my son. Rocking Horse has been amazing. Since he has started there in February I have seen him just flourish. They are always playing and doing activities. He is napping on a regular schedule and is just flourishing. All of the workers at Rocking Horse have been amazing and genuinely care about my son. For the people that are making comments about how their rates have gone up or are high - From all that I was able to find of the multiple places I toured and investigated, they are actually about $30 less a week and offer a lot more. For example - I toured a place in Lambertville that was $200 a week. Breakfast and Lunch were NOT included, and they did not have a microwave so everything had to be brought in and was cold. The facility was old, run down and dirty. Majority of the toys I had seen were broken and/or from the 90's. Rocking Horse is brand new. I see them cleaning and sanitizing the toys every day. My son is always doing something and not just plopped in front of a TV. Also in the new location they have a HUGE outdoor space. My son is outside at least twice a day while there. He has a lot darker tan than I do now. So reading the other reviews, I do not agree with majority of them. I am very happy with Paula and Rocking Horse Daycare. I think they are great.
Called over a year ago to get my son in, they told me they would have spots open in June. I called ***5*** times in July. 1st call they said they had spots open and we're calling people but manager wasn't in. 2cd time manager wasn't in but left notes and she would be calling me. 3rd time call back TMR early in AM. 4th time She's busy ATM I will have her call you right back. 5th time she's on lunch. I'm done! If you can't even call someone back after a year on a waitlist you are unprofessional and obviously have poor communication skills. Not where I want my child.
I have been sending my four childeren to the kinder-prep program and daycare for the last 5 years. Now three of them are in school and they get on the bus from Rocking Horse in the morning, the forth child is working his way through the kinder-prep program. They all enjoy their time there and look forward to eating breakfast there in the morning. All three of my scool aged children were ready to start kindergarden and passed the kindergarden round-up assessment with flying colors. I have in the past and will continue to recommend this daycare to others.
Rocking Horse childcare has recently grown into a large daycare facility, from what used to be a small in-home childcare center with less than a dozen children and 2 staff members. Some of the good things about Rocking Horse are: their Kindergarten prep program (Children learn everything they need for Kindergarten), their pricing, and their large open rooms inside. Some of the cons about Rocking Horse are: lack of outside playspace (it's a pitiful little fenced in area on the pavement and the children do not spend a lot of time outside when it's nice), no field-trips, and poor lunch menu with lack of variety(how many times a month can a child eat Mac & cheese, hot dogs, or ham and cheese??). They do have a monthly newsletter that goes out- but it is nothing more than a hand-scribbled lunch menu and quickly typed up sheet of paper- nothing fancy or professional. They used to recognize a child's birthday on the newsletter, but I guess now they are too big to take the time to do that. The rates are continuing to rise to attend the daycare, but I don't see getting anything more out of it. The rates rise because they keep taking more and more children and having to hire more and more help. Overall, this is an ok daycare. Has a good Kindergarten prep program for Dundee Schools, but if you are looking for something amazing for your baby/ toddler- I would look elsewhere.
