January 2019 I began taking Maya to one of the best daycares in Fort Wayne. Conveniently, the location of this establishment allowed me to visit on lunch break and pop in at my leisure. I visited Maya roughly 3 times a week and have always appreciated this time I could get with her while being a working mom.
Fast forwarding to the end of last week sparked my concern when she had a few bruises. Maya, being a toddler, means playing rough and getting bumps and bruises along the way, so I dismissed these bruises as her “being a kid”. Tuesday (April 30,2019) Maya woke up saying she did not want to school, which was completely out of character considering she has loved school for the last 4 months. Still thinking this was her being a tired tot, I proceeded to take her. Wednesday (May 1, 2019) I picked her up from school like normal. She is always eager to tell me about her day when I pick her up, but she was silent for the duration of the ride. Giving her a bath that night was absolutely alarming when I noticed 17 total bruises (mostly new and fresh) on her legs alone. One of these bruises was so prominate that is was raised and swollen. These bruises were so significant that she cried putting on pants and shoes the next day.
On Thursday I confronted Rainbow Child Care for answers. I received genuine concern about this issue and the assistant director was shocked there had been no incident reports made considering the significance of her wounds. The assistant director informed me she would follow this with an immediate report and forward this information to the director.
When picking Maya up on Wednesday I sought out the assistant director for further information. She explained she forwarded this information to the director. Therefore, I confronted the director as directed. The director explained she had no knowledge of this happening and would make a report. Today when dropping Maya off I asked the director if she had investigated. She reported she did not, but will review the recorded tapes that they have placed in every class room with corporate. I firmly asked for this have immediate action taken considering the significance of this issue. The director reported she would have this information to be by 12:00 when she would call me. 12:30 and I did not receive a phone call. I visited the facility to inquire about the progress on this investigation. I approached the director with my school resource officer when the director explained she did not contact me due to dealing with another incident. The director then explained they have no videos or recordings. She also explained the assistant director “lied” when she told me she had passed this information on to the director the day prior.
I removed Maya from this daycare without answers and without clarification as to how my kid got 17 bruises on her legs. I have followed through with the proper authorities to stop whatever is happening in this unethical and corrupt facility.
I never thought this would be my kid, my perfect human would endure physical pain in the hands of professionals. I’m disappointed and disgusted with this corporation that is given top ratings.
Under further questioning Maya has explained a specific staff member has been hurting her. Unfortunately, I will probably never know the full story. I’m heartbroken for not only my kid but also any other kids who have endured or are enduring similar situations.
I hope the publicity of our story allows other parents to never let your guard down, especially with a prestigious daycare.
