I have used this provider for less than 6 months

Bad teacher to student ratio Tenured Staff are unprofessional, lazy, and deceptive Very Poor Managerial Training, lack of visibility, no accountability for problems Loose contracts holding no accountability for staff or center if they fail to meet expectations Lack of Safety Unwarranted rate increases at any time, within two weeks, so that you cannot cancel in a timely manner If you bring up any concerns you are treated harshly, and asked to leave DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!

I have two daughters (ages six months and five years) and they both go to One World. My oldest daughter has been there for two years now and I trust the staff completely. The director is especially pleasant. The enrollment process was stress free and I felt so comfortable leaving my daughter with the teachers. My oldest daughter is so comfortable there, so the choice and transition to put my youngest wasn't difficult at all. Two years ago, I was concerned that they would put my daughter in front of the TV for six hours everyday but that couldn't be further from the truth. All the activities at the daycare are very interactive and appropriate. That and I've really seen her social skills bloom, even though she has always been a shy child. I've been held up at work a handful of times and have had no choice but to leave my kids overtime. The teachers are never rude or impatient about it. My oldest also suffers from asthma but the staff handles her disorder with caution and care. I have also seen my six month old happier than in the baby's room. I was worried she would feel uneasy about being there for six hours but that is not true as I have come to see. The baby's room teacher is very friendly! One World Learning Center is reliable and convenient and in general, a safe and happy daycare center for your children.

Staff is great, director and assistant director are not. Inadequate coverage (too many babies per teacher in the infant room). We spoke to the director several times over 5 months re: concerns with this and the situation was never remedied. My son had been there for about 4 months before we caught on that there were too many babies in the infant room. I am not one to complain, and am pretty uncomfortable doing so. When I called the director the first time, I told her that I understood that sometimes you can only see one part of a two part story, and perhaps this was the case, but I just wanted to speak with her about the ratio. I asked her what the legal ratio is for the infant room, and she told me it was 3 babies to one teacher (which she was not abiding by at that time…or ever, for that matter). She said that she was going to move 2 of the infants into the next room anyway, so then the ratio would be correct. She also told me to feel free to call her with any concerns, and she’d be happy to speak with me. So every two months or so, I would ask her about the ratio because there always seemed to be too many babies per teacher. She would give me this excuse or that, the class would be smaller for about a week or two, then go back to too many children again. Honestly, at that point, my son’s teachers were the only reason he was still going here. We brought the coverage issue up one last time in October 2013. This time we were concerned not only with the coverage in the infant room, but also the coverage when the children were being dropped off first thing in the morning. One of the two teachers scheduled to be there when the school opened at 6:30am was always late by at least 15 minutes (this teacher is also the assistant director – she was on time maybe twice a month for the 10 months we were there). So from 6:30 – 6:45 (or 7)am, one teacher was responsible for all the babies being dropped off the morning (I saw as many as 12 children in the room, mixed ages, infant to maybe 4 years old). At the same time, this teacher had to open the door for parents who forgot their access cards (which, of course, meant that she had to leave all the kids alone in the room to go open the door). The last time we brought this up, she told us to not come back because we complain too much (again, no complaints except about the illegal ratio of children to teachers). She has no qualms with having 4 or 5 children to one teacher, and she's not going to change. The daily attendee list with all of the children listed is out in the open, clearly showing 7 or 8 babies being there every day with only two teachers in the infant room. Also, teachers have to leave the rooms to open the front door and leave babies unattended. Once during naptime, my son was picked up early, and there was not one teacher in the infant room with 6 sleeping babies. The teachers in the infant room are fantastic and are not part of the problem, they work hard and are understaffed. I’m sad the director is so cheap she couldn’t just hire one more person. I filed a complaint with Montgomery County, and hopefully they will follow-up on my report (and frankly I’m surprised they even passed their yearly inspection – on the date of the 2013 inspection listed on-line, I have 8 babies listed on the attendance sheet….weird). Anyway, it’s for the best my little man isn’t there anymore, but I would like to save parents from having their children get attached to the teachers only for you to have to leave because of illegal and unsafe practices by the director.
