As soon as we announced our pregnancy, we started looking for infant childcare. We found Mary in October of 2021 and met with her. In November we submitted paperwork and started making payments to hold our spot for August of 2022. We paid $50/month until August when our 3 month old started daycare with Mary so we paid full tuition. Mary had us submit paperwork including a care information sheet. She said to be as thorough as possible to help her better care for our child. I explained that our daughter wasn’t the best sleeper and went into detail about what worked. After a week and a half of full time care, Mary told us our daughter was “too much” and it wasn’t “going to work out.” When we asked for more details, she used the care information I provided against me saying that I even said she was difficult in the paperwork. We asked if we would be refunded the deposits we had paid in advance to save her spot and were told that since we signed a paper saying she could terminate care for any reason without refund, we wouldn’t receive it. After my husband went to visit with her explaining that we understood why she wouldn’t refund the actual childcare offered but that she should refund the deposits, she didn’t agree that she should do it but she ended up giving a partial refund (less than 50%). This ultimately left us without childcare less than a week before the school year started back up and my husband and I are both educators. Just be aware that she may terminate suddenly and without warning, she may use your words against you, and she means it when she says no refunds for any reason.
Mary Cardona terminated our contract over something very unreasonable. Our little girl had two small water warts visible on her face. She claimed we were putting others at risk by not telling her about it but the CDC and pediatrician advised continuing daycare as normal and that they weren’t harmful. We were not purposefully trying to hide anything, they were right there on her forehead. Mary refused to give us time to find alternative child care. She also refused to give us in writing termination paperwork for us to give our work since we would have to take time off to care for our little girl. She was very hateful in handling the whole situation, aggressively arguing with me while trying to pick up our child’s things, our refund check, and attempting to get termination paperwork. Definitely not as professional as she may seem.
