My son is 3 years old and the teacher told me she suspected he may have a behavioral problem a few months ago. They told me to take him to his pediatrician to try to get behavioral therapy. His pediatrician found no cognitive issues and told me that if it is a psychological problem he would need a therapist. 4 therapists later, my son was still undiagnosed and I was still being pressured by the school to use their agency for behavioral therapy although my son has not been identified as behaviorally challenged. The owner has been speaking with me throughout this long process and never listed expulsion as an option. She made it seem as though they would work with me while i got help for my son. I scheduled an assessment with FDLRS and an assessment with a Neurologist, both places are booked until well into the fall which I communicated with the staff and provided them with documentation. Earlier this week the director called for a meeting and told me I had until the end of the month or my son would be expelled. I expressed to her that the assessments he needs are scheduled months from now and no earlier dates were available. My son was with me because I had just picked him up. He’s very perceptive and understands everything. She said I was not doing my part as a parent and started to go on and on about how all the other parents got their referrals from the pediatrician and used the assessments from the teacher. She said i need to do a better job at helping etc etc. I politely told her that neither the pediatrician nor the teachers are qualified to diagnose a child with a behavioral disorder and that a psychologist or psychiatrist is required. She lost it! In front of my son she said if my teacher isn’t qualified you can leave Friday (2 days away). I was in shock. I pay on time, ive been dragging my son from therapist to therapist with no idea expulsion was coming and now I had been expelled with 2 days notice. My son loves his teacher. He cried all night. He was on his best behavior the next day and when i came to get him he said “ mommy I was good, can I please stay?” It broke my heart. I can’t believe someone would make such a harsh decision based on anger and would be so impatient with a child they believe is special needs. I’m truly shocked and hurt and I DO NOT recommend this school based on the director. If you are a parent with a student that may have special needs or requires patience, please seek care elsewhere
