I have used this provider for more than 6 months

After having our two older children attend KKNS and our our third child, a 1 year old in infant 3 enrolled, we were terminated from the school in January 2022 with just 2 weeks notice after I saw a teacher, Ms. Cheryl, in the infant 3 room, hit a child in the face while he was crying. The incident I reported is outlined below. Throughout the review, our family was met with resistance by HR and little to no concern about the safety of the children.

I offered to adjust our schedule to when other teachers were present in the infant 3 classroom so our child wasn't in danger, we offered several recommendations to help ensure the safety of all kids in Ms. Cheryl's classroom who are not able to talk, and we kept this incident quiet in order to try and resolve the matter with minimum push back. Instead our family was the one's pushed out. In a time when most day cares are at capacity, we were not even given the courtesy of a transition period to find a new day care.

My wife and I discussed the possibility of something happening to us, but being terminated for whistleblowing against a teacher who hits a child is wrong. We felt the moral obligation to share this incident as we don't know how many other children have or will be victims.

Here is the summary of what I encountered, October 19, 2021 at approximately 8:40am.

After dropping off our older kids at Camino grove elementary school I brought my 1 year old to KKNS at approximately 8:30am. Upon entering the school, the infant room was dark and no one was visible through the class window. I entered the middle gate and clocked my daughter in as usual and then went to the classroom door where I picked up a daily form to complete. I opened the door and I heard some crying in the sleeping rooms so I walked over and completed the form and put it on a clipboard and then hooked the clipboard on the wall.

I figured whoever was working was in the sleeping rooms with the babies. I had a tin of formula with me and went into the kitchen and placed it on the counter. I heard crying in the room from the kitchen so I went back around into the main area. The class was still empty. Usually a staff would come out to take my daughter by this point, so I wasn’t sure if I should bring her to the sleeping room since no one had come out yet. I walked into the front sleeping room and didn’t see anyone so I walked towards the back corner sleeping room adjacent to the kitchen. I didn’t want to startle any potential sleeping babies so I walked slowly and approached the open door frame. When I looked into the room I saw Ms Cheryl sitting against the left wall in pike position with her back against the wall. She had one baby in her arms, one baby on the ground on her right side, and a third baby on her left side. The baby on her left was laying on his back and crying. All of a sudden Ms Cheryl slapped the baby in the mouth. The baby was startled for a second then started crying louder and had his hands over his chest. Ms Cheryl started patting his hands trying to calm him down. She never looked up to see i was there. I was shocked and wanted to yell at her but I froze and felt numb. I sensed a need to get my daughter away and not draw any attention to me being there. I slowly walked backwards and out of the room and went straight to the office. I shared the incident with the head of the day care right after the incident happened.
