I have over 25 years experience in daycare, beginning as a volunteer, then an assistant teacher, a teacher, a program director, and then, as the owner of my own daycare home. I have developed a curriculum by taking the best of the two centers in Lawrence where I served as program director. The walkout basement has almost double the required space and is dedicated to the day care. A computer is available for the children throughout the day and I have over 60 educational programs for children who are computer ready. We live six blocks from Holcomb park and a walk crosses only two streets, both of which require traffic to stop. We also have a huge back yard and a private hiking trail, where we have spotted Eagles, Red Tail Hawks, an owl, several turtles, and other interesting wild life. I write children's songs and we sing a few of the more educational ones those during circle time. During circle time, I also teach the children things such as colors, numbers, counting, geography, dinosaurs, shapes, the alphabet, letter sounds, the planets, the State flower, state bird, state animal, etc. When free play time happens, I select a CD from my collection of classical music to play in the background. My son Galen attended Daycare at Jayhawk from the time he was 2 to when he finished Kindergarten. We loved it there so much and I knew Marty was always an awesome caregiver and role model for my son. I helped Marty in his daycare several times and it was always a wonderful environment. My son learned so much, got ready for school, and learned great social skills at Jayhawk. We miss it there!
