I have used this provider for less than 6 months

Nora's Daycare was recommended to me by some coworkers of mine. My husband and I went to meet Nora while I was still pregnant. Everything she told us matches what she advertises here, but when it was time to bring our precious children to her, we found that everything was not what it seemed. She told us things that we were excited to hear and then when it actually came time to do these things, she didn't remember saying any of it. These are some of the discrepancies with Nora:
- She advertises that she only takes eight children at the most, but she is currently servicing 9-10 families. It was 10 families when I Ieft, so I am not sure what it is now.
- I was told my two children (twin baby girls) would be 2 of 2 or 2 of 3 children in the same age group cared for by one provider, mainly her. She allowed a fourth infant of the same age to come in with no additional help. Four children under ten months of age are hard to be monitored by only one person.
- My husband and I are both teachers. We asked about spring break because our spring breaks do not match up. Keeping the girls home for both of those spring breaks was fine when we brought it up at the first meeting. When it came time for spring break, it was not okay, we were made to feel badly about it, and still had to send the girls to daycare (or pay for no work). We understand that she is running a business and needs to pay her employees, but we also expect her to remember what she says and honor her word.

***I also have some major concerns with the way my children were cared for.***

1) My daughters developed a diaper rash in May. By the time Wednesday came, they would both have diaper rashes and no one could explain why. Grandma watches the girls on Thursdays and by Thursday night, the rashes are gone. How? No one can explain why. I sent my own supplies and switched my girls to sensitive formula wipes and all. Only a problem at the daycare. The new school year starts and the same problems start happening again. Fast forward to when my girls were no longer going to Nora's and I got my supplies back - they lost my month's supply of wipes and I received an unopened tube of A&D ointment...the same ointment they were given in May to apply at every diaper change to prevent diaper rash. Between the lack of preventative cream and not knowing whose wipes were being used on my kids....I have a pretty good idea where the diaper rash came from.

2) Anytime I wanted to know information about my children, it was like pulling teeth to get the information and I was considered a pain in the butt parent for asking. What did I want to know?
How well did they eat?
What time did they nap?
How long did they sleep for?
When was the last time they ate?
NONE OF THESE QUESTIONS ARE RIDICULOUS TO ASK. Any parent who cares about their child wants to know the answers to these questions. I was accused of being a problem parent because I demanded the answers to these questions. Mind you, I did not yell. I simply asked and didn't leave until someone could tell me. They did have my children for the last 8 hours after all...someone should know!

3) There was one day that I dropped my children off and was talking casually with Nora. I heard one of my girls screaming, so I went back to find out what the problem was. I literally watched as one of her workers pulled my sleeping daughter out of her carrier by her arms. This is not how I would want any child to be handled, especially my own. I tried to ignore and forget it, but now that we are no longer there and other things have come to light...it should've been my warning then.

4) The last day my daughters were at Nora's daycare, one of my daughters came home dehydrated and the other one came home with red calves (looked like sun burn, but it wasn't...still do not know what it was). How do I know my one daughter was dehydrated? She drank 8 ounces of water. What 9 month old do you know who does that? I don't know any and that is the only day she has ever done it.

I asked Nora about their eating habits for the day and sent a picture of my daughter's legs to see if she remembered seeing it or knew how they got that way. She then called me because she took offense to me asking her those questions. THESE ARE MY CHILDREN. If they are different when I pick them up than when I drop them off, I WANT TO KNOW WHY. I paid her to care for my children. This was the breaking point for both me and my husband.

My advice if you're considering this daycare? Look at MANY other places before you make your decision. I wish I had. Use care.com and find someone who is willing to be dedicated to you and not the money coming in.
